Distibution of the faculty by age group

Let's take a look at how the faculty is distributed by age group within the University, according to data from Bocconi's Gender Report

Percentage of faculty by academic category, field of study, and gender

PO (Full Professors)

  • Between 35 and 44 years: Women 8.3% - Men 5.9%
  • Between 45 and 54 years: Women 66.7% - Men 39.6%
  • Over 54 years: Women 25.0% - Men 54.5%

PA (Associate Professors)

  • Between 35 and 44 years: Women 22.0% - Men 22.1%
  • Between 45 and 54 years: Women 53.7% - Men 35.3%
  • Over 54 years: Women 24.4% - Men 42.6%

AP (Assistant Professors RTDa + RTDb)

  • Under 34 years: Women 56.0% - Men 49.2%
  • Between 35 and 44 years: Women 44.0% - Men 49.2%
  • Between 45 and 54 years: Men 1.6%

RU (University Researchers)

  • Between 45 and 54 years: Women 50.0% - Men 45.5%
  • Over 54 years: Women 50.0% - Men 50.0%

Distribution of teaching staff by role and age group 2022

  • Average age: women are slightly younger than men at all academic levels
  • Full Professors: the largest group of female full professors is between 45 and 54 years old, while for male full professors the most common age is over 54 years
  • Career advancement: over 60% of men over 54 are full professors, having reached the highest career level. For women of the same age, this percentage drops to 25%

  • Between 35 and 44 years: Women 2 (10%) - Men 6 (11%)
  • Between 45 and 54 years: Women 16 (38%) - Men 40 (42%)
  • Over 54 years: Women 6 (29%) - Men 55 (61%)

PA (Associate Professors)

  • Between 35 and 44 years: Women 9 (40%) - Men 15 (30%)
  • Between 45 and 54 years: Women 22 (52%) - Men 24 (35%)
  • Over 54 years: Women 10 (48%) - Men 29 (30%)

AP (Assistant Professors RTDa + RTDb)

  • Under 35 years: Women 14 (100%) - Men 31 (100%)
  • Between 35 and 44 years: Women 11 (50%) - Men 31 (59%)

RU (University Researchers)

  • Between 45 and 54 years: Women 5 (10%) - Men 5 (8%)
  • Over 54 years: Women 5 (23%) - Men 6(7%)

Among the Staff, predominantly female (72.6% women and 27.4% men), no particular differences are evident in the composition by age and educational qualification
